July 10, 2010: Conway Robinson Workday and Picnic
We have a workday coming up on July 10th at Conway-Robinson State Forest. C-R State Forest is a key link for (future) trail connection from Silver Lake to the Manassas Battlefield. We encourage as many members as possible to participate in this event.
The group will be meeting at Conway Robinson State Forest, at the intersection of University Drive and Route #29, on July 10th from 9 a.m. to noon. Bike and horse riders are being asked to bring their transportation and ride with clippers or loppers. Runners are also asked to plan on running to observe the condition of the trails. Volunteers will be assigned a particular trail and be asked to note on a given map anything that seriously deters their passage or pleasure.
Any cutting to be carried out should be done with ticks in mind. As almost all trails are presently infested with ticks, a four foot wide path, wherever possible, and sufficient height for horse riders to pass without brushing trees or vines is the goal of the day.
A picnic is planned to be held in the Conway Robinson Pavilion at noon. Attendees are asked to bring picnic food that may be shared. Iced water will be available.
