The Prince William County Park Authority is prepping the new Silver Lake park near Haymarket
for its Oct. 1 public debut.
In June the Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted to give control of the 230-acre
park on Antioch Road to the Park Authority.
Park Authority officials have said they plan to have multi-use trails, bank fishing and portable
restrooms available when the park opens in October.
This weekend, volunteers with the Park Authority, the Prince William Trails and Stream Coalition
and the Nokesville Horse Society are organizing a trail work and clean-up day to get the park
ready for visitors.
Volunteers will remove debris from the park and help clear and re-establish trails, according to a
Prince William Trails and Stream Coalition press release.
The county has owned the Silver Lake property since December 2006, when Toll Brothers, a
developer that built the nearby Dominion Valley subdivision, proffered it to the county; but it has
not been opened to the public.
According to Park Authority officials, the first phase of the park will open in October and
community meetings will be held before other phases of the park open. The first public meeting
on the park’s master plan is scheduled for Oct. 6 at Mountain View Elementary School.
Volunteers who want to help with Saturday’s cleanup can call Prince William Trails and Stream
Coalition president Zoe Vitter at 703-785-5785 or e-mail pwctrails@gmail.com .
For more information or to volunteer for other cleanups at Silver Lake, call the Park Authority at
703-792-7060.
