Over 100 runners came out on this beautiful December morning to participate in the Jingle Bell 5 mile race in Bristow, with much of the course on the Broad Run trail.  Many of the participants are shown in this picture gallery.  Race results are posted here.

The PWC Parks Dept has started work on the new parking area at Doves Landing (near the intersection of Doves Lane & Shawnee Lane).  This will be the public access point for the park.  Doves Landing is a natural resource based park, to be used for passive recreational activities such as hiking the trails, bird watching, and riding horses.  PWTSC is partnering with the Parks Dept to link the new parking area to the trail network at Doves Landing, and to make other trail improvements in the Park.  Some trail work was completed on National Public Lands Day in September 2014, and additional workdays will be planned in 2015.

On November 8, PWTSC partnered with the Parks Dept to do another cleanup at Veteran’s Park, which includes a portion of Marumsco Creek and wetlands.  About 25 volunteers participated, collecting trash in the Park, from Marumsco Creek and from the wetlands. We were able to clear trash from another area this time, as CSX allowed access to a fenced area under the pedestrian bridge which crosses the rail tracks.  The pedestrian bridge connects the Park to nearby residential areas, and unfortunately trash had accumulated under and near the bridge.  Thanks to all the volunteers and Parks Dept staff who participated – we nearly filled the dumpster!
