First Day Hike on the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail

January 2, 2014January 7, 2014

This group of hikers chose to open the new year with an outdoor experience, joining the Potomac Heritage Trail Association,  Sierra Club Potomac Regional Outings, and PWTSC for a First Day Hike along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.  A group of sixteen started at Scuppers Lane in the Powells Landing community, hiked the trail along Powells Creek , through Leesylvania State Park, and on to the Metz Wetland (about 4 miles).  Another group of eleven completed an out-and-back hike starting at Metz Wetland then into Leesylvania Park, walking both the Powells Creek Trail and Potomac Heritage Trail segment inside the park.

The group walking in the Powells Landing area got a first look at the new boardwalk being constructed by the PW County Parks Dept.  A wide, durable boardwalk (funded by a grant) will replace previously installed temporary boardwalk on the wet sections of the trail.

Thanks to Bill Niedringhaus, Potomac Heritage Trail Association, for sharing these photo’s
