A significant improvement to Segment 2 of the Occoquan Greenway Trail is nearing completion. Segment 2 is along the Occoquan Reservoir and a section of it near Aviary Way is being re-routed uphill away from the private residence and further into the LRPRA common area. This re-route will also bypass a couple of steep and eroded spots on the old section of the trail. The re-route includes a new 50-foot bridge built by the PWC Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR). On May 3, 2025 volunteers gathered to build the trail connecting to the new bridge. Fifteen volunteers from the Lake Ridge area, along with the trail maintenance supervisor from DPR, were able to establish the new trail connection.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped with this project!
DPR is working to have railings installed on the bridge abutments at each end of the bridge. When those are installed and the final inspection is completed, the bridge and new trail will be opened for use.
